About Fifty Nine Productions

"Fifty Nine Productions are being hailed as the most exciting purveyors of video for theatre in the world..."

The Herald, 26/01/08

59 Productions specialises in design for live performance, often utilising the latest technologies to bring a space to life.

Creative experience in set design, film production and the visual arts are supported by in-depth technical knowledge. 59's team is at the leading edge in exploring the application of new technologies and techniques in order to make new ideas possible.

59 has close relationships with many of the top producing venues in the UK, Europe and North America including English National Opera, the Royal Opera House and the Metropolitan Opera New York. Company directors Mark Grimmer and Leo Warner are also the youngest ever artistic associates of the National Theatre, London.

As well as designing creative and technical solutions for stage and performance-based projects, 59 Productions also produces standalone film and video pieces, and has produced a number of documentaries including The Unrecognized (Adalah / Oxfam / Fifty Nine) shot on location in Israel in 2005, Inside The Botanics (RBGE / Fifty Nine) about the behind the-scenes research and ecological work of the National Botanic Gardens of Scotland (2006), An Introduction to Hardman (National Trust / Fifty Nine), and Roam [wasn't staged in a day], for the National Theatre of Scotland (2007), as well as a number of music videos and short films. A Family Portrait, a short by acclaimed animator Joseph Pierce, commissioned by Channel 4 and Film London, is currently touring film festivals worldwide.

Fifty Nine Productions has also worked on artists' and gallery installations including Picture House at Belsay Hall, Northumberland, and Marsyas at Tate Modern as well as live events, exploring new ways to use technology and the moving image in art. Fifty Nine continues to research and develop these techniques, and to collaborate closely with artists and arts organisations, as well as developers and technicians, in order to push forward the possibilities of live and interactive art forms. Through working with many of the leading arts practitioners in the world today, we have built up a folio of collaborators, with whom we will continue to explore new ideas and possibilities over the coming months and years.
